Even if you are brushing and flossing your teeth perfectly at home, it can still be beneficial to have a professional cleaning at Contemporary Dentistry twice a year. Using state-of-the-art equipment, a biannual professional cleaning eliminates built-up plaque and tartar while polishing your teeth for a healthier, brighter smile. During your treatment, you can ask for tips on caring for your teeth at home and discover any areas that need extra care. A professional dental cleaning will give our team a chance to identify any problem areas in your mouth that may require care. Getting a professional cleaning is a crucial step in maintaining your oral health so make an appointment at our Fairfax, VA or Manassas, VA office.
What Are the Benefits of a Dental Cleaning?
Our patients who receive regular dental cleanings can expect to enjoy a number of benefits following their procedure, including:
- Prevention of disease that catches cavities or other issues before they progress
- Reduction of plaque and debris buildup
- Ability to elect for fluoride treatment to strengthen and protect teeth
- Improvement of overall tooth health and appearance
What To Expect at a Dental Cleaning Appointment
Your dental cleaning starts by addressing the tartar and plaque buildup from your enamel, which is challenging to remove on your own with just daily brushing and flossing. Professional equipment is used to scale buildup without harming the tooth. To start, an ultrasonic device breaks up large areas of plaque and tartar with high-speed vibrations and a lubricating mist. Then, a fine handheld instrument, such as a curette or scaler, will remove smaller pieces. Each tooth will be individually scaled to get all the tartar and plaque. Once your teeth have been scaled, your enamel will be polished to remove stains. If needed or requested, a fluoride treatment can be completed following your cleaning.
Am I a Candidate for Dental Cleaning?
Virtually everyone - adults and children alike - can be considered candidates for dental cleanings and should have their teeth cleaned twice per year (or as recommended by their dentist). Regular dental cleanings give our providers the opportunity to assess your teeth between dental exams and identify any potential issues that may arise in their earliest stages, while also allowing plaque, tartar, and other build-up to be removed. This discourages cavities, decay, and other problems to ensure your teeth stay healthy, strong, and beautiful for longer.
What Do I Do After a Dental Cleaning?
More frequent cleanings may be recommended if you have other oral health concerns, like periodontal disease. Our dental cleaning team can also help you develop a home routine for good oral health by recommending dental products and demonstrating techniques that can address your specific concerns. These can be very beneficial for your teeth, overall health, and wallet, so be sure to attend your dental appointments at Contemporary Dentistry.
Contemporary Dentistry Reviews
Ask for Dr. Amy to clean your teeth. FLAWLESS. Zero pain, you will never know you went to the dentist. Plus her knowledge of teeth care as she’s cleaning is impeccable.
This is my second review for this excellent office. After neglecting my teeth for quite some time a broken toothed forced me to visit a dentist. After a research on the web and subsequent phone calls I settled for the Contemporary Dentistry of Manassas. One of the reason was that not having insurance the office accepts Aetna Savings Plans, basically a discount for the services. The discounts are real as I found out calling some other offices. My first visit was in January 2018. I have had numerous procedures done since then (altogether 30 - thirty - visits) ranging from deep cleaning, numerous cavities and including one implant and two crowns. All work was done in the office, the quality of work has been 100%+, I have never experienced nay 'post-procedure' pains or complications. The staff is very friendly and I am very happy I picked Contemporary dentistry for my dental needs. UPDATE: January 2023. Just had the cleaning done, after five years still a satisfied customer.
UPDATE: January 2024. My 6th year with Dr. Morales. Had another cleaning. As usual, great experience. I don't have insurance, so I am happy they still honor Aetna's discount membership for real savings. Started to learn Spanish and I can practice it in real life...and for free! Hasta la proxima vez ! About UsDental Cleaning FAQs
What should I do if I miss a biannual dental cleaning appointment?
If you miss a scheduled dental cleaning, try not to worry. Still, it is important to reschedule as soon as possible, as regular cleanings play a vital role in preventing dental issues. In the meantime, maintain good oral hygiene at home by brushing and flossing regularly, and be mindful of your diet to reduce the risk of dental problems.
How can I keep my teeth healthy between in-office dental cleanings?
To maintain good oral health between dental cleanings, it's important to follow a consistent at-home oral care routine. This includes brushing your teeth at least twice a day with fluoride toothpaste, flossing daily to remove plaque and food particles, and using mouthwash. Additionally, limiting sugary foods and drinks, and eating a balanced diet can help reduce the risk of cavities and gum disease.
How should I prepare for my dental cleaning appointment?
For the most efficient and comfortable dental cleaning experience, be sure to:
-
Arrive on time for your appointment.
-
Inform the dental hygienist about any changes in your medical history or medications.
-
Be honest about any dental concerns or issues you've experienced.
-
Brush your teeth and floss before the appointment, as it helps the dental hygienist more effectively clean your teeth.
