What Are Dental Implants?

Restoring damaged teeth is crucial to the total condition and look of your mouth. Contemporary Dentistry is very proud to provide high-quality dental implants for tooth restoration to reliably resolve extracted or missing teeth. A dental implant consists of a metal screw that serves as a substitute tooth root. A personalized crown, bridge, or denture is used as the viewable part of the missing tooth (or many teeth). If you experience tooth loss or need a tooth extraction, arrange a checkup at Contemporary Dentistry at our office in Fairfax, VA or Manassas, VA and find out about your fixed implant options.

What Are the Benefits of Dental Implants?

Dental implants are generally selected because of the dramatic number of positive advantages they provide. As tooth restorations, fixed implants:

  • Allow for the intake of a healthy diet
  • Might increase your confidence when speaking and any time your teeth show
  • Act as natural teeth in function and look
  • Offer increased biting power and durability of tooth substitutes
  • Function as a long-lasting tooth restoration option
  • Never make use of adjacent teeth for support
  • Merge with the jaw to retain jawbone health and strength

Are You a Candidate for a Dental Implant?

Oral implants may replace many badly compromised teeth, ranging from a single tooth to a whole mouthful. You may be considered an ideal candidate for implants if you have experienced missing teeth, need removals, or are having issues with your current replacement. To serve their purpose, dental implants need proper bone support, healthy gums, and a reliable oral environment. Sometimes, patients may have other care before qualifying as excellent candidates. Implants might not be ideal if you are an expecting mother, use tobacco products, or have specific medical issues. During your visit, our dentists can help you determine if oral implants are ideal for you.

What Is the Treatment Process for Dental Implants?

The surgical approach for dental implants entails the careful positioning of the implant and the attachment of a lifelike, customized restoration (such as partial dentures, crowns, or bridges). When the area is prepared for surgery, it will be desensitized with oral anesthesia. Sedation services may additionally be used to allow you to feel calm during your session. The titanium post will be strategically secured within the jaw at a particular location and allowed time to merge with the jaw through a process called osseointegration. When the implant site has fully healed (typically 6 – 9 months later), our dental team will position a specially made crown, denture, or full-arch restoration and assess the alignment of the bite.

Great experience. Open on Saturday. Dr. Maya Vexler DDS was fantastic and did a great job with my dental crown, very confident and nice. I plan on switching to Contemporary Dentistry. The whole team made me feel very comfortable and safe.

UPDATE: January 2024. My 6th year with Dr. Morales. Had another cleaning. As usual, great experience. I don't have insurance, so I am happy they still honor Aetna's discount membership for real savings. Started to learn Spanish and I can practice it in real life...and for free! Hasta la proxima vez ! UPDATE: January 2023. Just had the cleaning done, after five years still a satisfied customer. This is my second review for this excellent office. After neglecting my teeth for quite some time a broken toothed forced me to visit a dentist. After a research on the web and subsequent phone calls I settled for the Contemporary Dentistry of Manassas. One of the reason was that not having insurance the office accepts Aetna Savings Plans, basically a discount for the services. The discounts are real as I found out calling some other offices. My first visit was in January 2018. I have had numerous procedures done since then (altogether 30 - thirty - visits) ranging from deep cleaning, numerous cavities and including one implant and two crowns. All work was done in the office, the quality of work has been 100%+, I have never experienced nay 'post-procedure' pains or complications. The staff is very friendly and I am very happy I picked Contemporary dentistry for my dental needs. UPDATE: January 2023. Just had the cleaning done, after five years still a satisfied customer.

My family and I have been patients of Dr. Morales and his practice for 18 years. The time period, alone, should be an indication of my family’s satisfaction.  Dr. Morales is wonderful...he invariably demonstrates serving his patients’ best interests and well-being in recommending and carrying out treatment. We have never had lingering issues in any treatment given.  We have successfully recommended him and his practice and will continue to do so. We never have a problem with scheduling appointments and the office staff is always welcoming and pleasant. The office, itself, is modern and comfortable.  If I could give 10 Stars, I would! P.S. Love our hygienist, Amy.

I’ve had a very positive experience with Contemporary Dentistry of Fairfax starting with my initial phone call to make my appointment, to the welcoming and professional office staff, and the talent and skill of the dentists. I currently see Dr Noumy but I trust that I would get the same care from the other dentists as well.

I travel from Florida for Dentist Diego Morales.  He is super careful and I don’t have any pain.  Excellent work in my mouth.  Dentist Diego Morales treats you like part of his family.  No waiting times when you have an appointment.  The receptionist and the staff very attentive.  I recommended 100%.

What Is the Recovery Following Implant Placement?

Individuals who undergo this surgical procedure may experience some swelling, bruising, and discomfort around the affected area. Prescribed or over-the-counter pain medications and ice packs can help alleviate post-operative discomfort. Once the titanium implant has integrated with the jawbone and the custom crown, denture, or bridge is in place, it's essential to maintain a consistent dental care routine with proper brushing and flossing techniques. During regular dental cleanings at Contemporary Dentistry, we use special instruments to polish dental implants and monitor the condition of the restorations.

How much do dental implants cost?

The price of dental implants can differ from patient to patient depending on an array of factors. During your consult, our staff will assess the current health of your teeth in order to create a custom treatment plan. At that point, we’ll be able to provide a more accurate cost estimate.

Are dental implants painful?

No. Thanks to our modern equipment and experienced staff, the vast majority of our patients do not report feeling any pain or discomfort when receiving dental implants.

Are dental implants covered by my insurance?

A portion of your dental implant procedure or piece might be covered by insurance, depending on your policy. A member of our financial staff will get in touch with your provider and help make full use of your benefits prior to determining any outstanding expenses. At Contemporary Dentistry, we work to help you acquire exceptional care for your dental health and take a range of easy payment solutions, such as affordable financing programs.

Can my body reject dental implants?

Dental implants are successful for 95 percent of patients. However, if an infection occurs, they can fail to integrate with the jawbone — a bad oral hygiene routine typically causes this.

What foods should I eat right after my procedure?

We suggest you eat soft foods and drink a lot of liquids in the few days following your surgery. Some suggestions include milkshakes, yogurt, cottage cheese, protein shakes, and mashed potatoes. After several days, you can start eating softer foods like cooked noodles and poached or soft-boiled eggs.

What should I not do after my dental implant surgery?

It would be best if you avoided smoking after your dental implant surgery and beyond as this can cause gum disease. You shouldn't apply any heat to your face, which could cause swelling. You should also avoid using straws as this could cause more bleeding.
