What Are Dental Crowns?

Individual teeth that have been weakened by moderate tooth decay or damage can generally be restored with a crown. Our modern practice is pleased to offer dental crowns that cover and protect the visible portion of an individual tooth while restoring its normal function and cosmetic appearance. Crown restorations are custom-crafted to blend with your existing teeth and are oftentimes performed to treat fractured teeth, decay, teeth that are oddly shaped, or other forms of damage. Dental restorations could also be combined into a unit to form a dental bridge or positioned over single implants to replace a missing tooth. Book a visit with our team at Contemporary Dentistry in Fairfax, VA or Manassas, VA to decide if a custom crown could restore the quality of your smile.

Do I Need a Crown?

Fairfax, VA patients could benefit from having a dental crown placed to repair several dental concerns and reestablish proper function and cosmetic appeal for a tooth. Some of the most prevalent reasons for needing a crown are:

  • Teeth that are broken or cracked
  • Eroded or severely worn teeth
  • Discolored or misshapen teeth
  • Teeth with moderate dental caries
  • Replacement of large fillings
  • Teeth treated with endodontic therapy
  • For the fabrication of a dental bridge
  • To restore a dental implant

At Contemporary Dentistry, dental crowns are placed on teeth in the back and front of the mouth and might be crafted from high-end ceramic or other types of aesthetic materials, porcelain over metal, or precious metal (such as gold). Our experienced dental team will assess your tooth or teeth and help you choose the ideal type of dental crown procedure for your unique needs and aesthetic desires.

What Happens During a Dental Crown Procedure?

The crown procedure most often takes place throughout two visits. At your first visit, one of our skilled dental practitioners will administer a local anesthetic to the tooth and may incorporate additional sedation services to elevate your comfort level if desired. Once the damaged area is removed, an impression of the prepared tooth will be completed and utilized by a professional dental laboratory to generate your customized crown. A provisional crown will be attached to the tooth to uphold function and a lifelike aesthetic appeal while your new dental crown is being crafted. We will have you visit Contemporary Dentistry a couple of weeks afterward so that you can have the temporary crown taken off and the new crown bonded to your tooth or dental implant.

This is my second review for this excellent office. After neglecting my teeth for quite some time a broken toothed forced me to visit a dentist. After a research on the web and subsequent phone calls I settled for the Contemporary Dentistry of Manassas. One of the reason was that not having insurance the office accepts Aetna Savings Plans, basically a discount for the services. The discounts are real as I found out calling some other offices. My first visit was in January 2018. I have had numerous procedures done since then (altogether 30 - thirty - visits) ranging from deep cleaning, numerous cavities and including one implant and two crowns. All work was done in the office, the quality of work has been 100%+, I have never experienced nay 'post-procedure' pains or complications. The staff is very friendly and I am very happy I picked Contemporary dentistry for my dental needs. UPDATE: January 2023. Just had the cleaning done, after five years still a satisfied customer.

UPDATE: January 2024. My 6th year with Dr. Morales. Had another cleaning. As usual, great experience. I don't have insurance, so I am happy they still honor Aetna's discount membership for real savings. Started to learn Spanish and I can practice it in real life...and for free! Hasta la proxima vez !
